JN 3:16
For God
so loved
the world He gave His one
and only Son, so that whoever
believes
 in Him
will not
perish
but have
eternal
life
.

This is how God showed His love among us: He
sent His one and only Son into the world that we
might live through Him. 1 JOHN 4:9

TRUTH AND LOVE

On an earthen tree
Jesus died for me
A Man of sorrows
Betrayed and abused

On that same tree
He died for you
The God of mercy
Broken and bruised

On heathen ground
He bled for me
A Man of compassion
Crucified and buried

From that same ground
He rose for us
The God of forgiveness

This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son as an atoning
sacrifice for our sins.
Hebrews 12:1-3

Fix your eyes on Jesus

who for the joy set before him endured the CROSS

so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Contemplate the Cross
Day 215 (griefshare.org)

"The clearest demonstration of the love of God is the cross," says Dr. Larry Crabb. "Without an understanding of the cross, you're never going to get God's love clear in your mind.

Do you feel unlovable? Have people turned away from you in your grief? Has anyone glibly offered to pray for you or shared Scripture with you without really taking time to listen to you? Have you heard the story of what Jesus did on the cross, but do not feel it personally? Instead of focusing on how inadequate other people are at expressing their love for you, direct your attention to the cross of Christ. Take time to listen to its message of love.

Crabb continues, "This hanging on the cross is the richest, clearest, most convincing demonstration of God's love. Without contemplating the cross and looking at it, Christians, you draw the wrong conclusions sometimes."

Direct your attention to the cross at Calvary. Here is where you are reconciled to God, where you receive the fullness of Christ through His shed blood. If you continued to direct your focus to the cross throughout this day, the next day, and the days after that, you would know without a doubt His love for you. You would begin to live your life on a higher plane.

"For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him [Jesus Christ], and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross" (Colossians 1:19-20).

Loving God, the Bible says that it was Your pleasure to reconcile me to You through this amazing sacrifice on the cross. Help me to focus on the cross and to understand the intense personal significance that I will find there. Amen.

Verse of the Day

Today's Verse

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace with his blood, shed on the cross.
— Colossians 1:19-20 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

How do you comprehend both the majesty and the sacrifice of Jesus? We've been looking at our Lord's identity all this month and still we find ourselves amazed, delighted, bewildered, and blessed by his glorious and humble character. The main thing, however, is that he made peace between a perfect heaven and a flawed humanity. He made this peace at horrific cost, the shedding of his own blood on the torture tree at Calvary. He did this with all of God's pleasure and nature in himself. He did this because of our sin. He did this because of love.

My Prayer...

O Father, I am sorry that it took such a great sacrifice to atone for my sin. I am thankful that you loved so much that you would pay the price for that sacrifice. I praise you for bridging the distance that I could not cover that my sin created between you and me. May you be as pleased with me today and see my life as a praise for your costly grace. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.
