TEARS OF LOVE

Dear Family and friends, the following poem was mostly
written around the middle of December last year. I re-
member as I wrote it my thoughts went to
John 11:35.

It encouraged me to realize that our Savior
knew the
pain of grief; he wept openly at the death
of his
friend Lazarus even knowing his
resurrection would
soon follow. Some say poor Laz should
not have had
to experience dying twice. I don't agree. He
was
destined by God to live again; he was Jesus'
friend!

Besides January and March through December this
year I
think February (especially the 14th) will be
a hard month
for me, with all the Valentine's stuff
and no sweetheart
to buy for I may just stay inside
all month.
I miss my friend,
but there's no doubt in
my mind that my Evelyn
was Jesus' friend first.

What was the name of
that old Tom Hanks movie
wh
ere he played the coach of a woman's baseball
team??  Our favorite line from that show was:
"There's no crying in baseball!" Well, there's no
crying in Heaven either, but there's plenty
of crying
going on over here!
THANK YOU for praying for me.

Now the poem:
TEARS OF LOVE

There's no crying in Heaven,
So try to put a smile on your face;
The days of mourning may not be over,
But the Son of God still makes your day.

Don't make yourself stop crying,
Your tears of love were building up;
The floodgates are open to wash away pain,
So cry until you've cried enough.

Love will not end - True Love never fails,
God's Word is clear about that;
But love does pause and tears will fall,
Until the Lord Jesus comes back.

There is no crying in Heaven,
No remembrance of pain on earth;
The scars of time were all forgotten,
On that new day of Resurrection Birth!

ON THAT DAY WE WILL SING HOLY...ON THAT DAY
THE LAME WILL RUN ALL OVER THE STREETS OF THAT CITY...WE'LL RISE AND TURN OUR EYES TO
THE LORD
JESUS CHRIST ON THAT DAY...WE WILL
SING HOLY HOLY HOLY --
The Light Of That City

24 Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

25 Jesus said to her, ""I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. 26Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?""

GREEN PASTURES

PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd

I shall not be in want
He makes me lie down
In green pastures
He leads me beside
Still waters

IN DEPENDENCE

The Lord is my Shepherd
I will always be in need
I need His constant protection
As I continue to believe

The Lord is my Savior
I can never save myself
I am lost without His love
In this world bent on Hell
The Lord is my Sovereign
He is in control of my life
Nothing happens outside of His will
Even though we cry and wonder why

The Lord is my Strength
I will always remain weak
Only then can I really see
How my God takes care of me

The Lord is my shepherd

He makes me lie down
In green pastures

Still waters
PSALM 23

What are those green pastures and quiet waters to which God leads us?  And where are they?  What is the reality behind these metaphors?

God Himself is our "true pasture" (Jer. 50:7) and our pool of quiet water.  He is our true nourishment, our living water.  If we do not take Him in, we will starve.

There is a hunger in the human heart which nothing but God can satisfy.  There is a thirst that no one but He can quench.  "Do not work for food that spoils, " Jesus said, "but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. . . . I am the bread of life.  He who comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty" (Jn. 6:27,35).

Malcolm Muggeridge's confession is a striking expression of this thought:

I may, I suppose, regard myself as being a relatively successful man.  People occasionally look at me on the street.  That's fame.  I can fairly easily earn enough to qualify for the highest slopes of inland revenue.  That's success.  Furnished with money and a little fame, even the elderly, if they care to, can partake of trendy diversions.  That's pleasure.  It might happen once in a while that something I said or wrote was sufficiently heeded to persuade myself that it represented a serious impact on our time.  That's fulfillment.  Yet I say to you, and I beg of you to believe me, multiply these tiny triumphs by a million, add them all together, and they are nothing, less than nothing, a positive impediment, measured against one draft of that living water that is offered to the spiritually hungry.

A HOME FOR YOUR HEART

"For in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).

IN HIM WE LIVE

In Him we live
In Him we move
In Him we have our being

Without Him we die
Without Him we freeze
Without Him we stop seeing

In Him we hope
In Him we dream
In Him we rest assured

Away from Him we're lost
Removed from Him we're cold
Apart from Him we're just same-old

With Him we are new
With Him we live by faith
With Him our holy vision grows

In Him we live
In Him we move
In Him we have our being

A Home for Your Heart

by Max Lucado

I only ask one thing form the LORD. This is what I want: let me live in the LORD's house all my life.
— Psalm 27:4

I'd like to talk with you about your house. Let's step through the front door and walk around a bit. Every so often it's wise to do a home inspection, you know—check the roof for leaks and examine the walls for bows and the foundation for cracks. We'll see if your kitchen cupboards are full and glance at the books on the shelves in your study.
What's that? You think it odd that I want to look at your house? You thought this was a book on spiritual matters? It is. Forgive me, I should have been clearer. I'm not talking about your visible house of stone or sticks, wood or straw, but your invisible one of thoughts and truths and convictions and hopes. I'm talking about your spiritual house.
You have one, you know. And it's no typical house. Conjure up your fondest notions and this house exceeds them all. A grand castle has been built for your heart. Just as a physical house exists to care for the body, so the spiritual house exists to care for your soul.
You've never seen a house more solid: the roof never leaks, the walls never crack, and the foundation never trembles. You've never seen a castle more splendid: the observatory will stretch you, the chapel will humble you, the study will direct you, and the kitchen will nourish you.
Ever lived in a house like this? Chances are you haven't. Chances are you've given little thought to housing your soul. We create elaborate houses for our bodies, but our souls are relegated to a hillside shanty where the night winds chill us and the rain soaks us. Is it any wonder the world is so full of cold hearts?
Doesn't have to be this way. We don't have to live outside. It's not God's plan for your heart to roam as a Bedouin. God wants you to move in out of the cold and live … with him. Under his roof there is space available. At his table a plate is set. In his living room a wingback chair is reserved just for you. And he'd like you to take up residence in his house. Why would he want you to share his home?
Simple, he's your Father.
You were intended to live in your Father's house. Any place less than his is insufficient. Any place far from his is dangerous. Only the home built for your heart can protect your heart. And your Father wants you to dwell in him.
No, you didn't misread the sentence and I didn't miswrite it. Your Father doesn't just ask you to live with him, he asks you to live in him. As Paul wrote, "For in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28 NIV).
Excerpted fromDon't think you are separated from God, he at the top end of a great ladder, you at the other. Dismiss any thought that God is on Venus while you are on earth. Since God is Spirit (John 4:23), he is next to you: God himself is our roof. God himself is our wall. And God himself is our foundation.
Moses knew this. "LORD," he prayed, "you have been our home since the beginning" (Ps. 90:1). What a powerful thought: God as your home.

ALL I NEED

You'll never realize Jesus is all you need until Jesus is all you've got.   -- Mother Theresa

I read that quote early this morning and saved it to think about later. So after church and a very encouraging message about worship based on John 4:24 (God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth) and then watching the second half of one of the most pitiful Dallas Cowboys football games I've ever seen I turned on the computer and tried to write something.  Of course like most of my poems lately my focus is somewhat blurred by missing Evelyn but I did try to incorporate a little bit of what I learned in church this morning.  With Love, Jeff

ALL I NEED

Alone
Again
But not the same

The Spirit
The Truth
Is always with me

Together
Forever
I'm willing to wait

For Jesus
My Savior
Is all that I need

THROUGH THE STORM

THROUGH THE STORM

Through the years
The Christmas cheers
The New Year resolutions

We'd always find
Our Peace of Mind
Knowing Christ alone was our solution

Through the joy
And through the pain
Jesus always took First Place

When we got lost
Our great God and Shepherd
Would carry us back to His grace

Through the storm
Of losing Evelyn, my wife and friend
I almost lost myself

But in the midst
I still see, I still hear Jesus
Reminding me that I'm still His

Know Him Better

When a child is born into a family, there is almost an instant bond of love. The parent and child spend LOTS of time together and truly begin to know each other. The parent knows the needs of the child, and the child knows the parent as the provider of comfort and security.

But as the child grows, other activities and friends begin to limit time with parents. In the search for independence, there is often rebellion toward parental instruction and counsel. Soon, the parent and child drift apart and no longer communicate as they once had - they sadly cease to know one another.

       Ephesians 1:16-17
"I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better."

Notice this is Paul's continuous prayer, that we be given revelation and wisdom. Revelation is the unveiling of God's truth and wisdom is the application of His truth in our lives. Both of these are necessary and serve the single purpose of knowing Him better.

As we continue in our relationship with Jesus Christ, there is a tendency to hit those spiritual teenage years where we have things pretty well figured out - or so we think. We begin to gain "self" confidence and trust in our own ability. We get more involved in activities (maybe even "good" activities) and with friends (maybe even "good" friends), but one day we wake and find we've drifted. We didn't intentionally walk away, but there's a definite loss of passion - we no longer really know God.

As a loving father longs to hold his children, our Heavenly Father longs for us to draw near and know Him; "Let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me" (Jeremiah 9:24). The Bible always speaks about knowing someone as a very personal and loving relationship; "Adam knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain" (Genesis 4:1 KJV). Jesus even defined eternal life as a state of knowing; "Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 17:3).

The road back to a restored relationship begins with spending time together. No matter how busy we get we must continue to humbly come into the presence of God, confess the sin which causes separation, fellowship with Him in prayer and the quiet study of His Word, and listen intently for His direction. Let's commit (or recommit) to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and let's be determined to take the necessary steps to draw near and know Him better.
